EHRS families enjoy a Shabbaton under the stars

Seventeen families from Edgware & Hendon Reform Synagogue (EHRS) came together for a memorable Shabbaton at Wellington Country Park, marking the fourth year of the popular community camping weekend.

It began with a Friday night BBQ and continued with a children’s Kuddle Up in Pyjamas to bring in Shabbat. Saturday featured a communal Shabbat morning service, followed by outdoor activities for all ages. Children enjoyed running freely and cooling off with a lively water fight back at the campsite. As Shabbat came to a close, families gathered around the fire for Havdallah, toasted marshmallows, and sang together using RSY songbooks, bringing back memories for many parents!

Camp organiser Sarah Koster, EHRS Head of Development & Engagement for Families, said: “This Shabbaton wasn’t just a weekend away. It was a celebration of what it means to be a Jewish family, part of a caring community, grounded in tradition yet open to the beauty of new experiences.”

The Joseph family summed up the success of the event, adding: “Thanks all for making our first family camping trip so memorable. Really lovely getting to know you all and being welcomed into the EHRS community. Kids are already asking when we’re going camping again!” 

With enthusiasm already building for next year’s return, the EHRS Shabbaton continues to offer a unique and joyful way to mark Shabbat, under the stars and at the heart of community life.
