L-R: Rabbi Sergio Bergman – President of the WUPJ, Carole Sterling – Chair of WUPJ, Michael Harris co-Chair of The Movement for Reform Judaism.

On 19th October 2022, Michael Harris (co-Chair of the Movement for Reform Judaism) was among community leaders who welcomed the President of the World Union for Progressive Judaism, Rabbi Sergio Bergman when visiting in London this week.

This was Rabbi Bergman’s first official visit to the UK and he took time out to visit a number of Reform synagogues during his trip, including our communities at Finchley, Alyth, and West London.

He began his role in 2020 and has pledged to work alongside communities here and abroad to raise the voice of Progressive Jews worldwide.

“It was an important opportunity to meet with Rabbi Sergio Bergman and Carole Sterling, the Chair of WUPJ,” said Michael Harris.

“We exchanged views to ensure we continue to work closely together to strengthen the bonds between us and with all progressive communities. We want to see our Movement playing an increasingly influential role within the Jewish world,” he added.
