Statement on the proposed merger of Manchester Reform Congregation and Sha’arei Shalom
We are delighted to give our full support to the ongoing discussions regarding the merging of Manchester Reform Congregation with Sha’arei Shalom.
The leadership teams of both synagogues have worked to create a vision for the future of Reform Judaism in Manchester, which will deliver an excellent provision to their communities, now and in years to come. Roy Saatchi, Board Member of The Movement for Reform Judaism & Member of Manchester Reform Congregation said: “Whilst discussions remain in the early stages, we now have a green light from both communities to produce proposals outlining how we can effectively pool our resources and skills. The initial talks have been about looking more strategically at the most effective ways to share campuses and resources to strengthen and enhance both communities and not about shutting down premises.
This with the intention to create a progressive Jewish community that can both adapt to the changing environment and ensure long-term benefits. Regular consultation with both sets of members will feature all along the way.”
