Statement on recent press reports regarding Abraham Geiger College from The Assembly of Reform Rabbis and Cantors

The Assembly of Reform Rabbis and Cantors and the Conference of Liberal Rabbis and Cantors wish to express their great concern over various allegations of misconduct at the Abraham Geiger College, particularly after the preliminary conclusion of the Commission of Inquiry in the investigation report of the University of Potsdam which confirmed that: “So far, the accusations against Prof. Homolka of misuse of power through accumulation of offices, the creation of problematic study and work conditions, and career interventions have been confirmed”
All institutions of higher education have a responsibility to ensure its students feel safe and are fairly treated, and they should answer to the highest moral and ethical standards. This is even more so of an institution that trains rabbis and future leaders of our communities. Anything less than that discredits the name of Progressive Judaism.
We therefore urge that robust systems are put in place to prevent any future abuses of this kind and that Jewish ethical values are upheld.
