Sarah Grabiner ordained as UK’s second Reform cantor

Sunday 5 May saw a momentous occasion as the UK Reform Movement’s second cantor was ordained in New York.

Cantor Sarah Grabiner grew up at Alyth, was mentored by Cantor Zöe Jacobs at Finchley Reform and will join Radlett Reform as the third member of their clergy team from July.

Members across the community watched the ordination live online. Rabbi Paul Freedman commented: “It was very exciting to be able to share in the joyous Hebrew Union College — Jewish Institute of Religion ordination ceremony as it was streamed from New York. Cantor Sarah said that she loved knowing that her new colleagues-to-be were alongside her even from afar.

“We have been anticipating and building up to the time when Cantor Sarah formally joins the Radlett team and are thrilled that it is nearly here. We are really excited about the opportunity for new music, for increased creativity, outreach and innovation she will bring to our community and enhance our provision”.
