Rabbi Laura Janner-Klausner on Ra’anana synagogue attack
Rabbi Laura Janner-Klausner has responded to this morning’s vandalism and death threats on a Progressive synagogue in Ra’anana.
Rabbi Janner-Klausner said:
“Reform Judaism condemns this attack on Kehilat Ra’anan and the violent threats made against Progressive Jewish leaders.
“Shockingly this is the fifth incident of Jewish extremist vandalism on the synagogue. We call on all religious and political leaders in Israel to respond to this as they would to an attack on a Jewish community in the diaspora; with vigorous condemnation and resolution to support Kehilat Ra’anan in word and deed.
“Our tradition tells us that sinat chinam, baseless hatred, led to the destruction of the Second Temple.
“We will not allow such hatred to destroy Progressive Judaism in Israel. We stand alongside our brothers and sisters in the Israel Movement for Reform and Progressive Judaism.
“We, alongside millions of Jews worldwide and in Israel are committed to equality at the Kotel and beyond and we will not be intimidated by threats like those we saw this morning in Ra’anana”.
