Newcastle Reform helping to unlock North East Jewish Heritage

Newcastle Reform Synagogue (NRS) hosted the public launch of the Unlocking North East Jewish Heritage project, which aims to share key stories of North East Jewish communities – allowing them to be understood in their geographical, social and civic context.

The project is funded by a bequest to Newcastle City Council by the Lahav Marital Trust in memory of late NRS members Ron and Kath Lahav.

A steering group, including NRS Chair Linda Scott, has been working with Newcastle City Libraries and Tyne and Wear Archives to identify, digitise and store the historic material.

Archivists from the region joined members from Jewish communities across the North East to celebrate the occasion at the launch event. More information on the project can be found here.
