MRJ responds to the murder of Gilad, Naftali and Eyal

Rabbi Laura Janner-Klausner, Senior Rabbi to the Movement for Reform Judaism speaks following the murder of the three Israeli teenagers, Gilad, Naftali and Eyal.

“We are deeply saddened by the deaths of three innocent teenagers, Gilad, Naftali and Eyal. As a Jew, as a British-Israeli mother and as a human being, I cannot imagine the pain and sadness their families are experiencing. We now mourn with the boys’ families, just as we prayed with them before.

“My prayer today is that in this time of heightened pain these horrendous murders will not spiral into something even more painful for the entire region.

“In this week’s Torah portion, Balak, the prophet Bilaam foresees that a ‘star shall shoot from Jacob’, which is often understood to mean that every human being is a source of light. This week we have lost sources of light, Gilad, Naftali and Eyal. May their memory be a blessing.”
