Mazal tov to Reform members recognised in New Year’s Honours
Warm congratulations go to our community members recognised in this year’s New Year’s Honours.
David Dein (Edgware & Hendon Reform Synagogue), receives an MBE, for services to football and voluntary work in schools and prisons, which he visits as a motivational speaker.
Rabbi Warren Elf, rabbi of Southend and District Reform Synagogue, receives an MBE for services to the community in Manchester. He is a member of the Faith Network for Manchester and the Challenging Hate Forum, and was a key figure in bringing together different communities in Manchester following the 2017 terror attack in the city.
Dame Rosalyn Higgins (Alyth), former president of the International Court of Justice, has received a GBE (Dame Grand Cross, the highest class of the Order of the British Empire) for services to international law and justice.
Cirla Lewis (The Wimbledon Synagogue), receives an MBE for her work in the field of Shoah education. Helena Aronson (Bromley Reform Synagogue) and Joanna Millan (West London Synagogue) are also recognised for their work in this important area and have been awarded the British Empire Medal.
Stanley Soffa (Cardiff Reform Synagogue), receives the British Empire Medal for services to community cohesion, combating anti-Semitism and supporting the Jewish community in Cardiff.
