Manchester Reform Synagogue is delighted to announce that the Limmud Board of Trustees has appointed member and lay leader, David Hoffman, as the new Chair of the global Limmud movement and organisation. He will take over from Kevin Sefton at the end of 2015.
The Board was excited by Hoffman’s commitment to growing and nurturing an expanded international network of volunteers, the future leaders of Limmud and the wider Jewish community, and by his passion for advancing Limmud in the UK and around the world. “David will lead Limmud to new heights,” said incumbent Chair Kevin Sefton. “This transition is happening as we head into our milestone 35th Limmud Conference, in a brand new location to accommodate record-high registration. Limmud is thriving internationally, with over 80 Limmud communities in 43 countries. David brings years of Limmud experience and success to this role.”
David, a commercial barrister, human rights law author and occasional rock musician, has held many Limmud leadership positions since 2005. He revived Limmud Manchester, co-chaired Limmud Fest, and served on the board of directors, among others. As immediate past chair of Limmud International, the team supporting Limmud groups outside the UK, he presided over its expansion, especially in the Far East and Latin America.
“The Jewish world recognises Limmud as a leader in engaging Jews across generations, affiliations – and non-affiliation – and international borders,” said David. “My goal is to build upon and expand Limmud’s unique strengths in training young leaders, convening Jews of all stripes, and fostering discussion and debate. We will continue to spread Limmud’s model of celebrating all things Jewish here in the UK and wherever there are Jews, inspiring them to move forward in their Jewish journeys”.
