Leo Baeck College Principal speaks at Canterbury Cathedral
Rabbi Dr Deborah Kahn-Harris, Principal of Leo Baeck College gave a lecture at Canterbury Cathedral as part of their series ‘See-through Stories: Windows on the World’ looking at the cathedral’s stained glass windows, the biblical figures they illustrate and their relevance for today.
The lecture entitled ‘Who Do You Think You Are?: The Use of Genealogies in the Construction of Identity from the Bible to the BBC’ offered a Jewish perspective on the figures appearing in the windows.
Rabbi Dr Kahn-Harris said: “I was delighted to be lecturing at Canterbury Cathedral and to be able to offer a Jewish perspective in the cathedral setting; one that is not often heard here as the Jewish community of Canterbury is very small. The lecture series is an attempt to bring new speakers into the cathedral and my invitation reflects well on the academic standing of Leo Baeck College. And as my first degree is in history of art, it was a great pleasure to be able to incorporate my love of art with my love of the Hebrew Bible”.
