Kindergarten at Alyth is Outstanding, says Ofsted

The kindergarten at Alyth (North Western Reform Synagogue) in Temple Fortune has retained its outstanding grade from Ofsted, receiving an outstanding rating in all areas.

Alyth Kindergarten, which was established in 1970, also received the top grade in its last inspection in 2015.  It has become only the third early years setting to receive an Outstanding rating in Barnet in 2023.

Ofsted reported that “the highly qualified and experienced staff are passionate about how children develop and learn”, as well as “providing excellent opportunities to develop their imaginative skills”. The children, who are “greeted warmly by staff when they arrive”, “benefit from extensive outdoor activities”.  Their “safety and well-being are paramount and promoted to the highest level” and they “are extremely well prepared for school”.

Headteacher, Tor Alter, was praised as “extremely dedicated”, taking “an active part in the kindergarten, working alongside children and staff”.

She said, “I am so proud of my staff team.  They all teach with passion, energy, love, warmth and purpose. They are dedicated practitioners, helping children to make excellent progress in their learning, developing their resilience and being well prepared for school.  This is particularly special as we all know how much harder it has become to achieve an Outstanding rating from Ofsted in recent years.”

Dan Salem, who oversees the kindergarten for the Alyth Board of Trustees, expressed his gratitude to the kindergarten team, especially Mrs Alter, acknowledging her “wonderful leadership and care for the wellbeing of the whole nursery community.”  He added, “The quality of the setting is second to none”.

Alyth Principal Rabbi, Josh Levy, said, “We are extremely proud to have such a high-quality kindergarten at the heart of our community, serving the needs of our community’s youngest members as well as those who join us from the local area”.

Hannah Isaacs, whose son attends the kindergarten said, “This recognition is truly deserved for all the hard work put in to making this kindergarten a special place for our children to learn and play.  I feel very lucky to have such an amazing team looking after my son each day and to be part of a community that genuinely cares for its families.”
