Interfaith gathering in Staffordshire

Professor Douglas Pratt, the Rt Revd Dr Michael Ipgrave, Bishop of Lichfield and Rabbi Debbie Young-SomersReform Judaism’s Community educator, Rabbi Debbie Young-Somers took part in an interfaith gathering at St Giles Church Whittington in Staffordshire with the Rt Revd Dr Michael Ipgrave, Bishop of Lichfield and New Zealand theologian Professor Douglas Pratt.

Issues of life and faith from the Jewish and Christian perspectives were discussed under the guidance of Prebendary Deborah Sheridan a scholar of renown in Jewish studies.

Rabbi Debbie Young-Somers said: “It was a huge privilege to be welcomed by the warm Lichfield Diocese and to discuss honestly and openly the benefits and challenges of our ongoing Jewish-Christian dialogue.

“Being able to celebrate our similarities (and share good cake!) is a wonderful blessing, but being able to speak openly and thoughtfully about our differences is even more crucial and I so valued this opportunity to do so”.

Catherine Gibbs, Immediate Past Warden of St Giles said: “Rabbi Debbie was most interesting. I am sure all there left with a better understanding of the Jewish faith. Her delivery was honest and inspiring, with a good bit of down to earth humour”.
