Downing Street Chanukkah Reception 2022

Number 10 Downing Street was the venue for Rabbi Kathleen Middleton co-Chair of the Assembly of Reform Rabbis and Cantors, and MRJ co-Chair Paul Langsford, as they attended the Prime Minister’s annual Chanukah reception on 21 December 2022.

Rishi Sunak spoke about the similarities he felt between Chanukah and the Hindu festival of Diwali. And he pointed out that although he was Britain’s first Asian PM there was a Jewish Prime Minister in residence 150 years ago. He also said how much he valued the Jewish community’s contribution to the country as a whole.

The evening ended with what was described as a ‘lively rendition’ of Ma’oz Tzur.
