A new Progressive collaboration launched in North Herts

More than 50 Progressive Jews living in North Hertfordshire came together to celebrate Chanukah at an intergenerational party full of food, song, craft and the lighting of multiple chanukiot

The event marked the launch of a new entity – North Herts Progressive Jewish Community.

This collaboration, supported by Stevenage Liberal Synagogue and Radlett Reform Synagogue, will promote festival celebrations and social events for Progressive Jews in the area regardless of their synagogue affiliation.

Rabbi Paul Freedman, Senior Rabbi at Radlett Reform who has family roots in North Herts, led the blessings. He said: “It was wonderful to be in Stevenage for such a joyous celebration of Chanukah. It felt like the spark of something new for Progressive Judaism in North Herts and I know the future here is bright!”

Stevenage Chair Linda Paice added: “I am excited by the potential that this new collaboration brings for members of both communities and the increased support and opportunities to engage in Jewish life locally.”

  • This Friday, we will publish a full round-up of Chanukah pictures and events from around our Progressive communities. If you’d like to be included, please send your pictures to
