A warm welcome for young adults over the High Holy Days
This year’s High Holy Day ticket scheme gave over 200 young adults who were not members of synagogues the chance to attend High Holy Day services in Reform synagogues free of charge.
Jeneration (the Movement for Reform Judaism’s initiative for students and young adults) recognises that 18-27 year olds should be given the opportunity to build upon their Jewish identity, even if they do not belong to a synagogue. For this reason, the cooperation between Reform synagogues and Jeneration gives young adults the opportunity to engage with Judaism during Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
Students really benefited from the scheme as it gave them the chance to observe the festivals in a welcoming Reform environment away from home. Student Deborah Hasen-Klein who attended West London Synagogue said: “the scheme was a life saver. It was the perfect opportunity for me, to feel like I was still involved with a Jewish community”.
Over the past decade, more than two thousand people have benefited from this scheme giving them a chance to observe the festivals.
Jeneration is proud to be in partnership with so many Reform synagogues and thanks them for welcoming many young adults into their communities.
