Marking Mitzvah Day and Inter Faith Week in Radlett

Radlett & Bushey Reform Synagogue is one of a number of different faith groups taking part in activities for Mitzvah Day and Inter Faith Week in the Radlett area.

Rev Maureen Taylor and Rabbi David Mitchell holding the Mitzvah Day BrochureRadlett & Bushey Reform Synagogue, Radlett United Synagogue, the Anglican Churches of Christ Church & St. John’s and St John’s in Aldenham, St Anthony’s Catholic Church, the United Free Church, and the Bhaktivedanta Temple are working together for the Jewish and Hindu 'Good deed' day and Inter Faith Week.

Local people including James Clappison MP will be among 20,000 people who will give a day of their time to support numerous good causes on Mitzvah Day, Sunday 21st November.  Local  faith leaders including Rabbi David Mitchell and Rev Maureen Taylor are calling on other Jews and non-Jews from Radlett and beyond, to do their bit for local charities on Mitzvah Day.

Rev Maureen Taylor says: "It will be so exciting to see members of all our faith groups working together to make a real difference to life in Radlett, and especially at a time when the news is full of negativity and discord. I believe it could have a lasting effect on our community."

Sita Rama Das, Minister and Head of Education & the Environment at the Bhaktivedanta Manor said: "it’s a wonderful opportunity to work together with the local community members of different faiths on such environmental projects. I look forward to it and I am sure it will be a rewarding experience."

The project – one of around 600 being organised nationally – will involve transforming the overgrown Rose Field (near Tabard Rugby Club on Watling Street) into a communal picnic area. While the adults work, there will be supervised games for the children. Following the challenge there will be a well-deserved afternoon tea for everyone at Radlett & Bushey Reform Synagogue.

Rabbi David Mitchell says: "What an unbelievable opportunity to combine Mitzvah Day with Inter Faith Week and do something that has such a positive impact on both our local community and our local environment.  I can think of no better Mitzvah for a Sunday afternoon!"

This is a unique project for the area and a big turn-out is expected. It is open to everyone to join in, able and less able, there’ll be plenty to do. The event is open from 1.30 for a 2pm start, with tea at around 4pm.
