East Africa Food Crisis Emergency Appeal
World Jewish Relief (WJR), UK Jewry's leading international humanitarian aid agency is launching an appeal to assist millions of people across the Horn of Africa facing severe food shortages. This appeal is supported by the Movement for Reform Judaism.
WJR is proud to work within and beyond the needs of its own Jewish community and fulfil the tenet of tikkun olam.
Two successive rainy season failures in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia and parts of Uganda, compounded by increasing grain prices, fodder shortages and livestock deaths have brought parts of the region to the brink of famine.
It is estimated that over 8 million people are in need of urgent assistance
Thousands of families are moving to displaced persons camps in search of assistance
Severe water shortages are adding to the deteriorating health status particularly of women and children
Without rapid intervention, this disaster could turn into a larger humanitarian catastrophe.
Your donation will help to relieve immediate needs providing:
Emergency food and water
Temporary shelter
