RSGB stands for Reform Synagogues of Great Britain (note Reform and not Reformed since the process of dynamic growth and change is ongoing, as it has always been in Judaism). RSGB is the umbrella organisation for all Reform Synagogues in Britain. It was founded in 1942 though the first Reform Synagogue in Britain, West London Synagogue, goes back to 1840. The Movement has grown very significantly over the last 60 years.

RSGB supports the Synagogues through the provision of a wide range of services – from prayer books and other publications through youth, student and young adult support to leadership training. It provides extensive educational support through the Leo Baeck College-Centre for Jewish Education. It supports the Movement’s Assembly of Rabbis who provide religious leadership. The Assembly maintains a Beit Din (religious court) that deals with all status matters (conversion, divorce, adoption etc.) and maintains an Association of Mohalim, who are all qualified doctors, to perform circumcisions. RSGB also spearheads social action work, support for Jews in the former Soviet Union and a wide range of Israel focused programmes. RSGB is the Movement’s representational body, representing the Movement within British Jewry, Britain and beyond. It is the advocate for Reform Judaism nationally.
