Progressive volunteers honoured at JVN Awards
Volunteers from Alyth, The Liberal Jewish Synagogue and Finchley Reform Synagogue were honoured at the prestigious Celebrating Volunteering Awards, hosted by the Jewish Volunteering Network (JVN).
Alyth members and long-term volunteers Tracey Kieve and Jeanette Cohen (pictured) received awards in recognition of the lasting impact they have made on the community.
Prizes were also presented to the LJS Singing for the Mind team – for their dedication to supporting those coping with memory loss and the early stages of dementia – as well as to FRS member Andrew Jacobs, whose 10 years as a business mentor to Goods for Good have helped establish and grow the charity.
Progressive Judaism Co-Lead Rabbi Charley Baginsky, who attended the ceremony, said: “Volunteers are the lifeblood of our communities, and it was so lovely to see Tracey, Jeanette, Andrew and the Singing for the Mind team honoured in this way.
“Whether it’s within the incredible projects run in our synagogues or for communal organisations such as Jami, Chai Cancer Care, JW3 and Jewish Care, we are so proud of our volunteers.
“We would encourage all Progressive communities to get in touch with JVN and take part in next year’s ceremony.”
With 350 guests, 105 award submissions and representation from 53 charities, this year’s event was a record-breaking celebration with an 18% rise in nominations and a 50% increase in participating charities compared to 2023.
JVN’s Chief Executive Nicky Goldman commented: “It was heart-warming and inspiring to celebrate the incredible contributions of volunteers at the JVN Awards.”
