Progressive member wins Emmy for We Will Dance Again

Lucie Kon, a member of Alyth, has won an Emmy for her harrowing, yet vital, TV documentary We Will Dance Again.
Lucie was the Commissioning Editor and Executive Producer for the BBC of the film, which tells the story of the 7 October 2023 Nova Music Festival massacre in Israel, where over 360 young people were killed and dozens abducted by Hamas near Re’im. It was shown on BBC Two and has now been distributed worldwide.
It won the Outstanding Current Affairs Documentary award at last week’s News and Documentary Emmys in New York, and had previously received the International Emmys Honour Award for societal impact.
Lucie’s role as Commissioning Editor was pivotal in bringing the documentary to the screen. The film was praised for its raw, unflinching use of mobile phone footage from victims, Hamas bodycam clips, and survivor testimonies to create a minute-by-minute account of the tragedy.
Lucie said: “It’s hard to describe how proud I am of the incredible team who worked so hard to bring the story of the massacre of young partygoers at the Nova Music Festival to audiences across the world.
“When I set off for New York for the Emmys last week, winning an actual award was the last thing on my mind. For me, the trip had always been about making the most of a rare opportunity to spend time with some of the production team, and the contributors to the film.
“Having won, I stood on stage with a mother whose child was murdered on Oct 7th, with two young survivors who barely escaped with their lives and whose friends were kidnapped and murdered that day, and with our Israeli partners who had travelled 48hrs under Iranian missile fire to be there. It was the proudest moment of my career.
“This award is a tribute to those who died, those who survived, and all those refusing to be silenced by the wave of antisemitic hate that October 7th unleashed.”
