More than 60 Reform Jews from northern communities have booked to attend the Movement for Reform Judaism’s biennial northern weekend in its new venue at Kettlewell in the Yorkshire Dales on the weekend of 23rd – 25th November 2007.

The theme of the weekend is Tikkun olam: Care and Repair of the World. The keynote speaker is Rabbi Jeffrey Newman, Emeritus Rabbi of Finchley Reform Synagogue. Rabbi Newman will be speaking about his work with the Earth Charter and this rural setting will concentrate minds on Jewish responsibilities towards the environment.

Participants will be coming from 10 different northern Movement for Reform Judaism communities, and they will be joined by Mike Grabiner, Chairman of the Movement for Reform Judaism (and member of Finchley Reform Synagogue). The communities represented are: Sha’arei Shalom, (North Manchester Reform Congregation), Glasgow Reform, Menorah (Cheshire Reform Congregation), Hull Reform, Sheffield and District Reform Jewish Congregation, Sinai (Leeds), Manchester Reform, Southport Reform, Liverpool Reform and Newcastle Reform.

5 rabbis from northern Reform communities (Rabbi Norman Zalud, Sha’arei Shalom, North Manchester; Rabbi Ian Morris, Sinai, Leeds; Rabbi Brian Fox, Menorah, Cheshire Reform Congregation; Rabbi Nancy Morris, Glasgow Reform; Rabbi Reuven Silverman, Manchester Reform) and one student Rabbi (Sandra Kviat) from the Leo Baeck College will also be taking part in the weekend.

In this beautiful rural venue, participants of all ages will be able to pray, study and socialise together. RSY-Netzer Madrichim will provide a full programme for younger members.
