The Reform Youth Movement, RSY-Netzer, has received a grant of £3,200 for their two-year leadership training programme from the Jack Petchey Foundation. A cheque was presented to leaders from RSY-Netzer at a special ceremony held at the Sternberg Centre on Wednesday 19th July.

The RSY-Netzer Hadracha (leadership) programme offers young people a unique opportunity to explore their Jewish identity and to strengthen their knowledge about Judaism, whilst taking responsibility for other young people and developing valuable new skills. The programme also helps to keep young people engaged in their communities and helps to ensure the continuity of the Jewish people in the UK.

The training course consists of three residential weekends, which allow the young people the space and time required to learn. During each weekend they are trained, through theory and practice, about the skills and values required to become effective youth leaders.

The Jack Petchey Foundation, established in 1999, gives grants to programmes and projects that benefit young people aged 11 - 25. The Foundation is eager to help young people take advantage of opportunities and play their full part in society. Grants of over £20 million have been given since the Foundation was established in 1999 (grant budget for 2006 - over £7m) - The Foundation is expanding rapidly and youth organisations are encouraged to visit the website for further details and application forms.

Next year, 60 young people from Reform synagogues across the country will be participating in the course. Benji Stanley, who will fill the new role of ‘Leadership Co-ordinator' for RSY-Netzer said: "There is a constant need to train new, high quality leaders, to take on voluntary leadership roles for the benefit of younger people within the community. This grant will help us to develop this project which is so important for the Jewish community in this country."
