Rabbi Tony Bayfield, head of The Movement for Reform Judaism, will be travelling to Israel this evening as he accompanies more than 100 young people who are embarking on a four-week Israel Tour with RSY-Netzer.

Rabbi Bayfield is demonstrating his support for RSY-Netzer, as well as his solidarity with the people of Israel, by flying out to Israel with the three groups of sixteen year-olds, and spending time with them during their first couple of days in Jerusalem.

On the question of security, RSY-Netzer Mazkir, Charlie Gluckman commented: “In these troublesome times, RSY-Netzer is wholly confident in the security structure of the Jewish Agency who remain on high alert and ready to coordinate any necessary modifications to our programmes.” He continued: “We wish those going on Tour to have a safe, wonderful and meaningful experience.”

Both Mike Grabiner, Chair of the Reform Movement, and Jenny Pizer, a Board member, are planning to visit the groups during the period of Israel Tour. The Reform Movement Shlicha, Meirav Kallush, will also be visiting them.

Julian Resnick, Living Judaism Director for the Reform Movement, who is currently living in Israel, said:

quote_left_small  It means so much to us in Israel after the disappointing days of the second Intifada when we felt so alone. These are very difficult days for us and morale is a crucial element in the situation we find ourselves in. Jewish solidarity has to mean something and hearing that, not only have the young people of RSY-Netzer and their parents made the brave and correct decision to stand with us at this time, but also that Rabbi Bayfield and the Voluntary leadership are setting an example for Jewish leadership is a wonderful feeling. Thank you all. quote_right_small
