Did you know that the 2008 Movement for Reform Judaism Siddur will arrive in our communities in just a few short weeks? After years of work and consultation, we will have our new Siddurim in our hands around the end of May.
Communities throughout the Movement are beginning to plan how to introduce them to their congregations, and how to help their lay prayer leaders to explore, enjoy and embrace this wonderful event. You may be involved in that planning and in celebrating this exciting event or you may be a congregant who is not yet sure what this will mean for your services; the Movement’s Siddur Education Project Team is preparing some help for you to get to know and love your new Siddur.
The Movement, with input from the Assembly of Rabbis, is preparing some
teaching materials to enable you to begin the process of exploring the
wonderful opportunities this Siddur offers.
We aim to make these materials available to you as a basis for your
community’s adult education programme, for a one-off workshop for your
lay prayer leaders, as a means of encouraging those who may not yet
consider themselves prayer leaders to come forward and get involved, or
any combination of the above. If you have your own rabbi(s), he or she
may want to use it as the basis for a course, and if you don’t have a
rabbi, your community will be able to use and/or develop the materials
as seems most appropriate to your needs.
The 2008 Siddur will also be the star of the Movement for Reform
Judaism’s Biennial Conference for the weekend of July 4-6, at Leicester
University. You will be able to use the Siddur in Conference services
as well as participate in a variety of workshops based on its
introduction. (Click here for more information.)
More information will be available about the teaching materials as soon
as they are ready for your use. In the meantime please feel free to
contact me if you have any queries.
