nwssopendayNorth West Surrey Synagogue welcomed local officials, educators and members of the police force to an Open Day on Thursday, May 9th.  The event included an exhibition featuring fascinating religious artefacts and a display highlighting the contributions NWSS members have made to both the local and Jewish communities.

Rabbi Jackie Tabick gave a talk informing visitors of the synagogue’s history and members from two generations discussed growing up in a non-Jewish area and the challenges presented in preserving their faith and cultural identity.  The successful occasion concluded with a delicious afternoon tea enjoyed by members and visitors alike!

Rabbi Jackie Tabick of NWSS was very enthusiastic about the event and felt “it was so wonderful to greet and entertain so many people who work and live in Elmbridge. The synagogue is currently celebrating its 40th anniversary since it was founded in the area and Rabbi Tabick expressed that “we wanted to give thanks to the residents of Elmbridge for their welcome and support over the years.”

The event is part of Elmbridge Borough’s 14 day festival aimed at encouraging residents to explore the diversity of resources and activities in the area.  The festival was first arranged in 2003 and has become an annual event with a wide range of activities including fireworks, guided walks, exhibitions and sporting events.  For further details, log onto the events section of the council’s website.
