Rabbi Dr Michael Shire, Vice-Principal of Leo Baeck College, will take over executive responsibility as Director of the College’s Department of Education from 1st October. Jo-Ann Myers will become Head of the Department, responsible for operations and management. Rabbi Shire was Director of the Centre for Jewish Education for 11 years, before its merger with Leo Baeck College. He is one of the few academics in the UK holding a PhD degree in the field of Jewish Education.He will continue to fulfill responsibilities as Vice Principal of the College, including an overview of Professional Development.
College Principal, Rabbi Professor Marc Saperstein, will take over responsibilities as Director of the Rabbinic Department.
Professor Saperstein said: “Rabbi Shire’s academic training and extensive experience make him uniquely qualified for this position. His leadership will ensure that the College’s Education Department will continue to provide high-quality services to the communities and schools with which it works, while responding to the needs of the stakeholder Movements that fund and support it. “We are also delighted that Jo-Ann Myers will take on the management responsibility in the department, following her successful team leadership in Autumn 2007.”
Jo-Ann Myers has worked extensively within the Education Department for more than 14 years, managing the educator training programmes and Hebrew support for communities and schools. She acts as course team leader for the Advanced Diploma, which provides three pathways for professional development: Education, Community and Youth Work.
