Farewell to Movement for Reform Judaism stalwarts Debbie and Gilly
The Movement for Reform Judaism is bidding farewell to two cornerstones of the organisation – Debbie Doobay, Chief Operating Officer, and Director of HR, Gilly Shulman. Their departure marks the end of an era for the movement, as both have played pivotal roles in its growth and success.
Debbie, who is set to join Stonewall, the LGBTQ+ rights and inclusion charity, as their new COO, has been a stalwart of MRJ for 19 years. A chartered management accountant, she added numerous responsibilities during her tenure, making her an indispensable part of the team.
Reflecting on her time with MRJ, Debbie said, “I wasn’t quite sure what I was getting into when I came for my interview all those years ago. But it’s been a privilege to be involved with a movement that has grown into an organisation I have been proud to be part of.”
Movement for Reform Judaism Chair Paul Langsford expressed his gratitude, saying: “We’re grateful for everything that Debbie has done for us during her remarkable 19 years of service. Without doubt, she is a ‘mensch’.’”
Gilly has dedicated 22 years to managing Human Resources for MRJ and other associated organisations and is now stepping into a well-deserved retirement. She shared her excitement for the future, saying: “I’m now looking forward to my next role as grandma and babysitter, and spending precious time with my 93-year-old mum.”
Rabbi Josh Levy, CEO of MRJ, acknowledged Debbie and Gilly’s significant contributions.
He said: “We would like to thank both Debbie and Gilly for their many years of service, commitment, and success, and wish them both well for the future.
“As MRJ transitions to Progressive Judaism, Debbie and Gilly’s legacy will continue to inspire and guide the future. Their dedication and hard work have left an indelible mark, and they will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of working with them.”
A full house at the Sternberg Centre enjoyed a joint celebration lunch to mark the occasion (pictured).
