All Things Jewish Presents 'Rhythm and Roots' at Edgware & District Reform Synagogue for the European Day of Jewish Culture & Heritage.
An Evening of Yiddish, Ladino and Klezmer music with Hilda Bronstein, Monica Acosta and Merlin Shepherd.
Hilda Bronstein is a widely acclaimed singer of Yiddish song. Her evocative CD 'Hilda Bronstein Sings Yiddish Songs Old and New' was recently launched internationally and has been reviewed and broadcast extensively across Europe and the USA and, in May 2008 Hilda performed at the first International Jewish Music Festival in Amsterdam. She is Director of the JMI Song School where she also teaches Yiddish Song.
Monica Acosta is a young and exciting performer in Ladino and has also sung for various operatic companies and has been a member of a number of Hispano-American folk groups. Monica teaches Sephardic song at the JMI Jewish Song School at SOAS and has performed in Ladino across the UK. She will be accompanied by Stephen Holmes on flamenco guitar.
Merlin Shepherd is one of the world's leading players of traditional East European Klezmer Clarinet style. He has released numerous CD’s of Klezmer music and fans may also be surprised to learn that he has also been the Musical Director for The Royal National Theatre, The Royal Shakespeare Company and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.
Plus a surprise act, if the above isn’t enough, this act is sure to put a smile on your face!
