Who was Judah ben Abraham Shemariah ?? - 2008/06/02 00:00
Not a very timely message - considering the fact that the New Siddur has just been released - however - I have been asked this question - so I will pass this on - but this is one for the Rabbis I suspect -
In the current (now old?) Reform Siddur, on the introductory 'plate' between pages 307 and 308 - there is a quotation from Judah ben Abraham Shemariah.
He is not in the index at the back - although Joel ben Abraham Shemariah is listed.
So my question is - who is Judah ben Abraham Shemariah? or is this (an old) typo for Joel ben A.S.?
I can't find any reference to Judah ben A.S. in any Jewish encyclopedia or even on Google!
