Re:Hello & Conversion - 2008/01/30 16:34 Hi Naomi,

I went on the links (left hand menu)and looked up the closest community to where i live.I'm in peterborough, where abouts are you? There is a liberal community here and i'm yet to actually attend synagogue, from what i can find out they only meet for Kabbalat Shabbat on the first friday of every month. anyway to get back to what i did was, i called the number i found and spoke to someone who put me in touch with a rabbi, i just explained to him that i wanted to convert and my reasons for doing so and that i knew my first step was to approach a rabbi so i could discuss my training. I would follow the advice matand gave you, do plenty of reading and research, i have started to read the torah -first five books of Moses. And i've ordered some books on learning hebrew and a book specially for converts. Good luck and lets stay in touch!!!

Re:Hello & Conversion - 2008/02/16 20:56 Hello,

I got in touch with a rabbi, but he's not very willing to help really. Told me to stay in touch but everytime I email I haven't got an answer. Another synagogue told me that they would forward my email to their rabbi and no-one has emailed me back from there either. So I'm stuck really. Thanks for replying

Oh and I'm in Liverpool!

Re:Hello & Conversion - 2008/02/17 14:02 Hi Naomi,

sorry if your not having much luck, it can be a busy time of year for Rabbi's. I'm sure you know that alot of course's start this time of year and of course Purim is coming up. Keep trying though, have you firmly decided on Reform Judaism. This was the first website i came on and after lots of research and looking on the internet i have gone with Liberal Judaism. So you might want to look at the different congregations and decide which one is for you.

Please keep trying though because there are some rabbi's out there that are extremely helpful and are always happy to help enthusiastic genuine people.

Good luck and keep in touch.
Please send me a message if you want to sound off to someone who's going through the same experience.

Tanya

Re:Hello & Conversion - 2008/02/25 01:07 Thank you. Its just so frustrating not being able to get anywhere. I've ran out of rabbis to contact now I think. I'm not really sure what to do. I'm still reading every day and learning new things but theres only so much you can learn from the internet and books!

Re:Hello & Conversion - 2008/03/14 17:15 Hello Naomi,
I read your posts..I hope you've had some luck recently with your conversion. I'm converting too (very early stages) and think you mentioned you're in Liverpool?
If you need some help still I have found Southport Reform Synagogue incredibly helpful with a wonderful Rabbi. It may be worth looking on their website as Southport's not too far.
all the best
