Question re Conversion - 2008/01/01 19:15 Hiya,

I have decided to convert to Judasim and wished to convert under the reform movment. However, where I live there is not a reform shul near and as I do not have a car it's not possible.

I have therefore decided to convert under the Liberal Judaism movement and would like to know once converted whether I would be accepted as Jewish by the reform movement.

I was circumsized when I was six so I am going to have Hatafat Dam Brit and Mikveh (immersion)

1. Would I be recognised as Jewish under the reform movement?

2. Is there anything more I would need to do to be recognised?

3. Would I be recognised as jewish by the Conservative movement in the United States?

4. Can reform and liberal Jews live in Israel under the law of return? If so, is the law ever likely to be changed to stop reform and liberal jews making aliyah?

Many thanks

Re:Question re Conversion - 2008/01/05 00:30 Hiya,
My understanding is that any conversion which involves mikveh and circumcision (which already happened with you) is acceptable for the Reform movement and also for the Masorti movement as well. It is only with orthodoxy that problems might arise, although british orthodoxy is far more stringent than almost any others in the world.
Basically you would be fine as far as I know although there are rabbis here who could probably answer this question better than I could!
