Celebration of ‘Food & Faith’ Brings Communities Together
The Abrahamic Women MK interfaith group held a special celebration of ‘Food and Faith’, bringing together over 30 Jewish, Christian, and Muslim women from Milton Keynes and the surrounding area.
One of the diverse group’s Co-Chairs is Lou Tribus, also Co-Chair of Milton Keynes & District Reform Synagogue (MKRS).
Lou said: “It was a wonderful event – as we shared our unity and traditions, while fostering community and mutual respect.”
Guest of Honour was the Mayor of Milton Keynes, Cllr Marie Bradburn, who spoke about her work with the charity SieveMK – and the event raised £150 for the cause.
The afternoon was filled with demonstrations on how to make various foods associated with the different faiths. Viv Pollock captivated the audience with her demonstration of how to cook latkes for the forthcoming festival of Chanukah.
Viv explained that latkes are fried in oil to commemorate the miracle that occurred during the Maccabean Revolt, when a small amount of oil, sufficient for one day, miraculously lasted for eight. The event was educational and also a culinary experience as the women learned about different foods and their cultural significance.
The Core Team are now planning their next event for spring 2025. If you are interested in finding more about the group and their events, please contact: mkjmjwomen@gmail.com. They welcome women from all three Abrahamic faiths, including non-practicing members.
