Bromley Reform’s pre-Chanukah event brings joy and light

A pre-Chanukah family crafts afternoon, run by Bromley Reform Synagogue (BRS), brought together 50 people from 16 families for a festive and creative celebration.

Karen Andresier, Bromley’s resident artist, prepared and guided the crafts. She had also conducted an earlier session where everyone painted objects that represented light, setting the stage for the family friendly event that followed.

The children enjoyed various activities, including creating their own menorahs, chasing balloons and, of course, tucking into traditional Chanukah treats of gelt and doughnuts.

The afternoon’s highlight was a candle lighting which, although a couple of weeks too early, totally captivated the children. When the candles were lit, the grown-ups spontaneously sang Maoz Tzur, adding to the early festive atmosphere.

The event was well received by everyone, and many attendees expressed interest in joining future Bromley Reform activities. There was also an increase in enquiries about Gan and Cheder classes, indicating a positive future for the community’s educational offerings.

Einat Aronberg, Community Builder for Bromley Reform, said: “Gatherings like this are such a special way to bring people together. We felt connected and hopefully managed to put our worries aside for a while and celebrate the festival of lights. It was a pleasure to organise this gathering, and Bromley Reform hopes to run them again in the coming years.”
